World Day of Peace 2027

Disarming Technology, Serving Peace. Politics as Preventive Responsibility

The theme of Pope Leo XIV’s Message for the 60th World Day of Peace, to be celebrated on 1 January 2027, is: “Disarming Technology, Serving Peace. Politics as Preventive Responsibility.”

In a bulletin published by the Holy See Press Office, Pope Leo XIV draws attention to the moral responsibility of those called to exercise political leadership and urges all humanity to “disarm technology” in order to promote the dignity of the human person and contribute to the building of peace.

The Holy Father recalls that “No algorithm can make war morally acceptable.” (Magnifica humanitas, no. 198), highlighting the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in military decision-making processes.

He also appeals to the international community to promote shared agreements capable of safeguarding human responsibility in contexts where human life and peaceful coexistence among peoples are at stake, thus contributing to the building of a civilization of love.
