Diocesan Funds Allocated to Parishes Devastated by Typhoon Yutu

The Diocesan Finance Council, in their meeting last July 18, 2019, has allocated $100,000 to San Jose Parish in Tinian specifically for the purpose of rebuilding its church, and a separate $200,000 to be shared by parishes in Saipan directly affected by typhoon Yutu also for the specific purpose of repairing damages sustained during the typhoon.

These funds are from grants and donations received by our diocese from different organizations and individuals, particularly from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of Faith, Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Catholic Social Services in Guam in coordination with the Archdiocese of Agana, Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Roman Catholic Church in the State of Hawaii, Archdiocese of Baltimore, Archdiocese of Seattle, New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference, Prefecture Apostolic Marshall Islands, San Francisco de Borja Parish and San Isidro Parish in Rota, Academy of Our Lady of Guam, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Pohnpei, Bishop Julio Angkel of the Caroline Islands, Bishop Larry Silva of the Diocese of Honolulu, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Ms. Elaine Cruz Jones, Ms. Tina T. Blas, Mr. Randolph R. Calvo, Dr. Jeannette Boltz, Mr. & Mrs. Frank & Maria R. Tenorio, Mr. & Mrs. Timothy & Sheraldine Smit, Ms. Isidora G. Torres, Ms. Tricia Lynn T. Tenorio, Ms. Cecile S. Sotomil, and Mr. & Mrs. Bill & Irene Ainsworth.

The use of these monies have been restricted by our grantors and donors and as such disbursements will be made only when projects have been started, and actual payments have been made to contractors. Actual monetary assistance will be made by the diocese on reimbursement basis subject to approval by our diocesan finance council.

In accordance with diocesan policy on properties, any construction or acquisition of property in excess of $5,000.00 will go through a review process by the diocesan building committee. This committee acts as an advisory board to the bishop on matters involving acquisition and alienation of diocesan properties. Only when a project has gone through the process and approved by the bishop will it then be considered for funding.

Our diocese is very much grateful to all the generous donors who has extended both financial and non-financial assistance to our people either directly to the parishes or through the diocesan curia. They have given so kindly when asked, and we hope to honor their request to spend the funds they donated for the specific purpose for which they were given.
