The Diocese of Chalan Kanoa is proud to report the successful completion of a crucial and mandatory training session held this morning, November 13, 2025, at the Mt. Carmel Rectory Conference Room!
The Policy Orientation: Prevention, Response, and Accountability focused on our updated Child Protection and Safe Environment Policies.
The core objective of the day, led by Tiava To’omata, Director of Safe Environment, was to equip all clergy, religious, and parish/school staff with a full understanding of the newly promulgated diocesan safeguarding framework.

Key Learning Goals Reinforced:
Attendees worked through the following critical components of the new policies:
Policy Integration: Understanding key components of the new policies and how they seamlessly integrate with civil law and Church norms.
Mandated Reporting: Recognizing and fulfilling their legal and moral obligations as mandated reporters.
Safety Mechanisms: Identifying clear prevention, response, and compliance mechanisms now in place.
Culture of Care: Strengthening the diocesan culture of accountability, transparency, and pastoral care in all environments where children are present.
Next Steps for Safeguarding Our Minors
This is only the beginning of our comprehensive training initiative! The next round of mandatory trainings will be scheduled for all Church Ministers, Church volunteers, Catechists, School teachers and staff, and anyone else who involves themselves with the activities of minors.
This ongoing commitment to education and compliance ensures we maintain the safest possible environment for every child and vulnerable person in our care. We thank all attendees for their serious participation this morning.
