Gospel Reflection for the First Sunday of Lent
Gn 2:7-9; 3:1-7/Rom 5:12-19 or 5:12, 17-19/Mt 4:1-11 (22)
The Diocese of Chalan Kanoa invites you to a deeper journey this Lent with a Gospel Reflection for the First Sunday of Lent by Rev. Fr. Brigido D. Bagunas, Parish Administrator of San Jose Parish, Tinian.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, we witness Jesus’ victory over the three temptations of the devil in the desert. Fr. Brigido breaks down these challenges to reveal how they mirror our own lives today:
• Bread Alone: Are we nurturing our souls as much as our bodies? Fr. Brigido reminds us that material richness is not enough; without the spirit, the Sacraments lose their meaning.
• Manipulating God: We cannot expect God’s help without doing our part. True grace is found when we first offer our own sacrifices and diligence.
• Authority & Honor: The danger of “bargaining” with God or questioning His plan during times of illness or hardship. “Jesus was able to fight and overcome His temptations because He was full of God’s Spirit.”
As we begin these 40 days, let us follow the Lord’s example through prayer, fasting, and sacrifice to gain the strength needed to overcome our own daily temptations. Watch the full reflection to prepare your heart for this holy season.
