Finding Grace in the Inconvenience: A Good Friday Reflection

On this Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, Rev. Fr. James Balajadia offers a profound meditation on the journey to Calvary. While the Passion of St. John is filled with powerful symbols—from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Tree of the Cross—Fr. James invites us to look closely at the figure of Simon of Cyrene.

Often, our most difficult sacrifices are not the ones we choose during Lent, but the “inconveniences” we do not choose: the sudden illness, the difficult work hours, or the heavy responsibilities of caring for others.

Through Simon’s example, Fr. James reminds us that:

  • What seems like our “worst day” can become a moment of divine encounter.
  • Christ is present in the unexpected burdens we are forced to carry.
  • We are called to a “ministry of inconvenience”—meeting Jesus in the faces of those who need our help, our listening ear, and our patience.

Music: Lios Ebwe Afalugh Maria (Hail Mary in Refaluwasch, tune originally composed by Gus Kaipat, 1995)
